COURSE: The course will swim from west to east side of second beach.  The start will be on the west side of the rock closest to the beginning of the beach.  Check-In/finish will be at the main pavilion, which is located in the center of the beach.  Swimmers will start out swimming about 200m to the first turn buoy, then 800m straight, finishing with a left turn and another 200m to the finish.  There will be 4 markers placed 200m apart during the 800m straight away.  Swimmers can swim on either side of these markers, they are only used for guidance purposes.     

 

ENTRY INFORMATION: The cost of the swim is $35, which will include a swim cap and t-shirt.  Entries will be accepted on and after August 1, 2009.  Entries received before August 1, 2009 will be considered received on August 1, 2009.  Deadline for entry is Saturday September 5, 2009.  Make checks payable to “Tuesday Night Athletic Foundation”.  Mail completed forms (including signed entry cover page and waiver) and payment to the entry chairperson: TNAF C/O John O’Neill, 3 Ridgewood Rd. Cumberland, RI 02864.  All entries must be typed or printed legibly, and must use full names and registration numbers from USA Swimming registration.  All entries must include a completed and signed entry cover sheet and waiver.  No refunds will be given for entries that are accepted, or for entries that are rejected due to improper entry.  Any swimmer who is entered with incorrect swimmer information, or an incorrect or no ID, or is unregistered, will be scratched from the meet until corrections are made per the New England policy.   

 

ELECTRONIC ENTRIES: Electronic entries (such as from Hy-Tek Team Manager or other team management software) that are in CL2 or SD3/SDIF format may be emailed as an attachment to the entry chairperson, John O’Neil swimjto@gmail.com.  Please check that your team name, address, and contact information are listed correctly in this file.  Teams are encouraged to enter with one file from Hy-Tek.

 

ENTRY FEES: Entry fees are $35 payable to the Tuesday Night Athletic Foundation.  There will be small processing fee for those who register via the active.com.    No entries will be accepted after the September 5, 2009 deadline.

SAFETY:

 

  1. There will be no diving in the warmup and warmdown areas at any time
  2. No glass containers are permitted on the beach.
  3. Swimmers must be under the supervision of a coach.  If a swimmer arrives at the meet without a coach, the swimmer should notify the referee before he/she warms up.  The referee will assign the swimmer to a registered coach for warm-ups.
  4. No camera cell phones are permitted in the changing rooms.
  5. Lifeguards will be placed every 100yds throughout the course.  2 at each turn buoy and 2 at the start/finish.  We will have at least 14 lifeguards in total. 
  6. All participants will be required to wear a cap for safety and organization reasons.

 

RULES: 2009 USA Swimming rules will govern all competition & 2008 United States Masters swimming will govern all competition.   Decisions by the meet referee will be final unless a written protest is lodged within 30 minutes of the heat swum.

 

SCORING: The New England Open Water Championship wave will be scored. The Non-Championship wave will not be scored.

AWARDS: Awards will be given to the top 3 finishers and top 3 teams in the championship wave.  Awards in the non-championship wave will be given to the top Male and Female in 11-12, 13-14, 15-18.

 

EQUIPMENT VENDOR:  Beach Party Swimwear selling suits, goggles, and other accessories for the duration of the meet.

 

MISCELLANEOUS: Tuesday Night Athletic Foundation and the town of Middletown assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen property. 

 

PARKING: There is ample parking available in the parking lot adjacent to the beach..

 

DIRECTIONS:  Take I-95 north or south to exit 3A RI-138 E via Kingston/Newport.  Turn left onto US-1N/ RI-138 E.  Merge onto RI-138 E via the ramp to Newport/Jamestown/Bridges.  Follow signs to Newport/Middletown Beaches.   Sachuset Beach (Second Beach) is located just over the hill past the St. Georges school campus.  500 Purgatory Rd.  Middletown, RI  02842
