MEET FORMAT: The meet will be swum as timed-finals.  Each session will be seeded by computer based on positive check-in at the beginning of each session.  Coaches will receive a positive check-in sheet before each session, which must be returned no later than 30 minutes before the beginning of the session.  Heat sheets will be posted around the pool deck.  Coaches will be able to pick up heat sheets for each event at the control office.  The 1500 freestyle will be swum fast-to-slow, alternating heats of women and men.

 

SITE: The Brown University Pool is an 8 lane, 50 meter pool with 7 foot wide lanes and non-turbulent lane lines. Brown is equipped with fully-automatic Colorado Time Systems, electronic timing, with touchpads at the finish end of the pool and multi-line electronic display.  There are no touchpads at the turn end of the pool.  The finish end of the pool is 5 feet deep; the turn end of the pool is 8 feet deep.  Space for warm-up, warm-down will be available during the duration of the meet. Spectator seating is available for 500 people.  The pool is located inside the Brown University Athletic Complex on Hope Street in Providence, RI. Please enter through the main entrance off the parking lot facing the ice rink.  Directions can be found later in this document. 

 

COURSE: Long course meters (50 meters).

ELIGIBILITY: All contestants must be 2006 USA Swimming registered athletes.  All swimmers must be registered before the entry is submitted.  Teams that enter unregistered swimmers will be subject to a fine of $100 per unregistered swimmer by New England Swimming.  New England teams entering the meet are required to check their entries with the online registration check tool on the New England Swimming web site.  Please contact the New England Swimming Office for registration information. ENTRY INFORMATION: Entries will be accepted on and after June 15, 2006.  Entries received before June 15, 2006 will be considered received on June 15, 2006.  Entries must be received no later than June 30, 2006.  Make checks payable to “Ocean State Squids”.  Mail completed forms (including signed entry cover page and waiver) and payment to the entry chairperson: Jack Leblanc, 18 Lebrea Way, Coventry, RI 02816.  All entries must be typed or printed legibly, and must use full names and registration numbers from USA Swimming registration.  All entries must include a completed and signed entry cover sheet and waiver.  No deck entries will be accepted.  No refunds will be given for entries that are accepted, or for entries that are rejected due to improper entry.  Any swimmer who is entered with incorrect swimmer information, or an incorrect or no ID, or is unregistered, will be scratched from the meet until corrections are made per the New England policy Bay & Ocean State Squids will reserve 75% of the swims for its own team and any other teams (New England and/or out of district) that it may want to invite to the meet.  The other 25% of the swims will be open to other teams to submit entries.  If on the first day of acceptance, those meet entries exceed the 25% still available in the meet, there will be a lottery of those teams.  The lottery will be run by the New England Office.

 

ELECTRONIC ENTRIES: Electronic entries (such as from Hy-Tek Team Manager or other team management software) that are in CL2 or SD3/SDIF format may be e-mailed as an attachment to the entry chairperson at squids.entries@cox.net.  Please check that your team name, address, and contact information are listed correctly in this file.  For email entries, payment and hardcopy of the entry (including signed entry cover page and waiver) must be received within four (4) days, excluding Sundays and holidays, of receipt of the e-mail entry.  If payment is received within four (4) days, excluding Sundays and holidays, of the e-mail entry, the email receipt date will be considered the date of entry.  If payment is received more than four (4) days, excluding Sundays and holidays, after the e-mail entry, the payment receipt date will be considered the date of entry.

 

ENTRY LIMITS: Athletes may swim in a maximum of 5 events per day.

(Be aware that the 1500 meter will count toward your 5 event limit on Saturday)

 

ENTRY TIME UPATES: Entry times may be updated until 7 days prior to the first day of the meet.  No new entries will be accepted after the June 30, 2006 entry deadline.  Entry time updates should be sent via e-mail to the entry chairperson at squids.entries@cox.net  Entry time updates must be sent as Hy-Tek format CL2 files with updated times.  (New entries will be automatically excluded.)

 

ENTRY FEES:          

·        Electronic entries: $3.50 for individual events, $5.00 for distance event.

·        Non-electronic entries: $4.00 for individual events, $5.50 for distance events.

·        The Swimmer Participation Fee is $10.00 per swimmer.

·        Distance events include 400 Free, 400 IM, 800 Free & 1500 Free 

 

ENTRY TIMES: All entries must be specified in long-course meters (50 meter pool) times.  Yard times must be converted to meter times. (Entries with “NO TIME” will be rejected.)

 

ENTRY CUTS: Entry cuts, if necessary, will be made by the date of receipt from the 25% grouping of entries.  Teams will be notified that they have been accepted or cut from the meet within seven days of receipt of entry.  If the meet becomes oversubscribed, a random selection of those entries received on the date the meet becomes oversubscribed will be conducted in accordance with New England Swimming guidelines.  Teams that are cut from the meet will have their entry fee returned within four days of being cut.

 

RELAYS: There will be no relays.

 

PROGRAMS: $3.00 per session.

 

ADMISSION: $1.00 per session.

 

WARMUPS: The pool will open for warm-ups one-hour before the beginning of each session.  The pool will close five minutes before the beginning of each session.  Teams will be assigned warm-up lanes after all entries are received. There will be a 2 lane area approximately 20 yards long that will be available during the meet for warm-up and warm-down.

 

SAFETY:

 

  1. Diving will be prohibited during warm-ups except in specifically announced one-way sprint lanes.  There will be no diving in the warm-up and warm down areas at any time
  2. No shaving is permitted at the competition site.
  3. No glass containers are permitted within the facility.
  4. Swimmers must be under the supervision of a coach.  If a swimmer arrives at the meet without a coach, the swimmer should notify the referee before he/she warms up.  The referee will assign the swimmer to a registered coach for warm-ups.
  5. No camera cell phones are permitted in the locker rooms.

 

RULES: 2006 USA Swimming rules will govern all competition.  Decisions by the meet referee will be final unless a written protest is lodged within 30 minutes of the heat swum.

 

TIME TRIALS: Time trials will be offered at the discretion of the meet referee if time allows.  Time trials are $5.00 for individual events and $20.00 for relays.

 

DECK ACCESS: Only athletes, coaches, officials, and official meet staff are permitted on the pool deck. Anyone on the pool deck that is not working the meet as a coach or in an official capacity as part of the meet staff will be removed from the deck and if necessary removed from the facility.  All non-athletes on the pool deck must display their USA Swimming registration card at all times.  Individuals without their USA Swimming registration card will be removed from the pool deck, and will be subject to a fine by New England Swimming.

 

SCORING: The meet will not be scored

 

AWARDS: There will be no awards at this meet.

 

FOOD: A concession stand will be in operation for the duration of the meet.

 

EQUIPMENT VENDOR: A swimming equipment vendor will be selling suits, goggles, and other accessories for the duration of the meet.

 

MISCELLANEOUS: Bay & Ocean State Squids assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen property.  Pets of any kind and smoking are not permitted within the facility.

 

PARKING: There is ample parking available in the parking lot adjacent to the Smith Swimming Center as well as ample street parking on Hope Street and Lloyd Ave.

DIRECTIONS:
From the North: Take 95 South to Branch Avenue (Exit 24). Turn left onto Branch Avenue to traffic light. Cross intersection and go up Cypress Street hill to Hope Street (stop sign). Turn right on Hope Street, bear to the left at the fork and cross over Lloyd Avenue.  The entrance to the Athletic complex is the next driveway on the left.  The athletic complex is surrounded by a stone wall and the Smith Swim Center is the only building in the complex with many peaks on the roof.

 From the South: Take 95 North to Rhode Island. Once in Providence, take Branch Avenue (Exit 24). Turn right onto Branch Avenue to traffic light. Cross intersection and go up Cypress Street hill to Hope Street (stop sign). Turn right on Hope Street, bear to the left at the fork and cross over Lloyd Avenue. Entrance to Athletic Complex is next driveway on left. The athletic complex is surrounded by a stone wall and the Smith Swim Center is the only building in the complex with many peaks on the roof.

From the East: Take Route 195 West to Gano Street exit in Providence. Take right onto Gano Street, go to Angell Street (at that point Gano Street turns into Taber Avenue) and turn left. (Angell St is a one-way street to the left) Take Angell Street to Hope Street and turn right. The Athletic Complex driveway is on the right after Stimson Street. The athletic complex is surrounded by a stone wall and the Smith Swim Center is the only building in the complex with many peaks on the roof.
