MEET FORMAT: The meet will be swum as timed-finals.  Each session will be seeded by computer based on positive check-in at the beginning of each session.  Coaches will receive a positive check-in sheet before each session, which must be returned no later than 30 minutes before the beginning of the session.  Heat sheets will be posted around the pool deck.  Coaches will be able to pick up heat sheets for each event at the control office. 

 

SITE: Kevin Fitzgerald Pool is a 6-lane, 25-yard pool with seven-foot-wide lanes and non-turbulent lane lines.  It has a fully automatic Colorado Time Systems electronic timing with touch pads at the finish end of the pool with six-line electronic display.  There are no touch pads at the turn end of the pool.  The finish end of the pool is 13 feet deep; the turn end of the pool is 4 feet deep.  Spectator seating is Limited.  The pool is located inside the Northampton Aquatic and Family Center at JFK Middle School, 100 Bridge Road, Florence MA 01062. Park near the tennis courts and enter the building in the back directly across from the tennis courts. Directions may be found later in this document. 

 

COURSE: Short course yards (25 yards).

 

EVENTS and SESSIONS: See attached list.

 

ELIGIBILITY: All contestants must be 2006 USA Swimming registered athletes.  All swimmers must be registered before the entry is submitted.  Teams that enter unregistered swimmers will be subject to a fine of $100 per unregistered swimmer.  New England teams entering the meet are required to check their entries with the online registration check tool on the New England Swimming web site.  Please contact the New England Swimming Office for registration information. ENTRY INFORMATION: Entries will be accepted on and after June 1, 2006.  Entries received before June 1, 2006 will be considered received on June 1, 2006.  Entries must be received no later than June 16, 2006.  Make checks payable to “Northampton Area Swimming”.  Mail completed forms (including signed entry cover page and waiver) and payment to the entry chairperson: Ed Wingfield, 419 Burts Pit Road, Florence MA 01062.  All entries must be typed or printed legibly, and must use full names and registration numbers from USA Swimming registration.  All entries must include a completed and signed entry cover sheet and waiver.  No deck entries will be accepted.  No refunds will be given for entries that are accepted, or for entries that are rejected due to improper entry.  Any swimmer who is entered with incorrect swimmer information, or an incorrect or no ID, or is unregistered, will be scratched from the meet until corrections are made per the New England policy.

 

ELECTRONIC ENTRIES: Electronic entries (such as from Hy-Tek Team Manager or other team management software) that are in CL2 or SD3/SDIF format may be emailed as an attachment to the entry chairperson at wingfield.e@comcast.net.  Please check that your team name, address, and contact information are listed correctly in this file.  For email entries, payment and hardcopy of the entry (including signed entry cover page and waiver) must be received within four (4) days, excluding Sundays and holidays, of receipt of the email entry.  If payment is received within four (4) days, excluding Sundays and holidays, of the email entry, the email receipt date will be considered the date of entry.  If payment is received more than four (4) days, excluding Sundays and holidays, after the email entry, the payment receipt date will be considered the date of entry.

 

ENTRY LIMITS: Athletes may enter and swim in a maximum of 5 events per day.

 

ENTRY TIME UPATES: Entry times may be updated until 5 days prior to the first day of the meet.  No new entries will be accepted after the June 16, 2006 entry deadline.  Entry time updates should be sent via email to the entry chairperson at wingfield.e@comcast.net. Entry time updates must be sent as Hy-Tek format CL2 files with updated times.  (New entries will be automatically excluded.)

 

ENTRY FEES: Electronic entries: $3.50 for individual events.  Non-electronic entries: $4.00 for individual events.  The Swimmer Participation Fee is $0 per swimmer.  [Note that this fee can be charged only if a team requested it for a NE Calendar meet and submitted a bid before the deadline.]

 

ENTRY TIMES: All entries must be specified in short-course yard (25-yard pool) times.  Meter times must be converted to yard times.

 

ENTRY CUTS: Entry cuts, if necessary, will be made by the date of receipt.  Teams will be notified that they have been accepted or cut from the meet within seven days of receipt of entry.  If the meet becomes oversubscribed, a random selection of those entries received on the date the meet becomes oversubscribed will be conducted in accordance with New England Swimming guidelines.  Teams that are cut from the meet will have their entry fee returned within four days of being cut.

 

25-YARD EVENTS: 25-yard events will start at the start end of the pool.  Back-up buttons and stopwatches will be used for times.  Swimmers will dive in from the blocks.

 

PROGRAMS: $1.00 per session.

 

ADMISSION: $0.00 per session.

 

WARMUPS: The pool will open for warm-ups one-hour before the beginning of each session.  The pool will close five minutes before the beginning of each session.  Teams will be assigned warm-up lanes after all entries are received.

 

SAFETY:

 

  1. Diving will be prohibited during warm-ups except in specifically announced one-way sprint lanes.  There will be no diving in the warm-up and warm down areas at any time
  2. No shaving is permitted at the competition site.
  3. No glass containers are permitted within the facility.
  4. Swimmers must be under the supervision of a coach.  If a swimmer arrives at the meet without a coach, the swimmer should notify the referee before he/she warms up.  The referee will assign the swimmer to a registered coach for warm-ups.
  5. No camera cell phones are permitted in the locker rooms.

 

RULES: 2006 USA Swimming rules will govern all competition.  Decisions by the meet referee will be final unless a written protest is lodged within 30 minutes of the heat swum.

 

TIME TRIALS: Time trials will be offered at the discretion of the meet referee if time allows.  Time trials are $5.00 for individual events and $10.00 for relays.

 

DECK ACCESS: Only athletes, coaches, officials, and official meet staff are permitted on the pool deck.  All non-athletes on the pool deck must display their USA Swimming registration card at all times.  Individuals without their USA Swimming registration card will be removed from the pool deck, and will be subject to a fine by New England Swimming.

 

SCORING: Pentathlon scoring will use an accumulation of race times. Swimmers must swim all 5 events to qualify.  Dq’s will add 1 minute to the slowest legal time in that event. Times will be broken down by age group 8 & U, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15 & Over.

 

AWARDS: Trophies will be awarded to the top six finishers in each age group (8&U, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, & 15 & Over) for the Pentathlon, and Ribbons for the Top six in each event.

 

FOOD: A concession stand will be in operation for the duration of the meet.

 

MISCELLANEOUS: Northampton Area Swimming assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen property.  Pets of any kind and smoking are not permitted within the facility.

 

PARKING: There is ample parking available in the parking lot adjacent to the Northampton Aquatic and Family Center.

DIRECTIONS: The Northampton Aquatic and Family Center at JFK Middle School is located at 100 Bridge Road, Florence MA 01062.  From the North (Route 91), take exit 20 off Route 91. Take a right at the first set of lights onto Bridge Road and continue straight on Bridge Road (through one set of lights, then later, a blinking light). A couple of blocks past the blinking light on the right is JFK Middle School. Take the last entrance marked “Athletic Fields/Tennis Courts.” Park near the courts and enter the building in the back directly across from the tennis courts.

From the South (Route 91), take exit 19 off Route 91 (this is the second Northampton exit). Go straight through the set of lights at the end of the ramp onto Damon Road. At the next set of lights, go straight across (King Street) onto Bridge Road and continue straight on Bridge Road (through one set of lights, then later, a blinking light). A couple of blocks past the blinking light on the right is JFK Middle School. Take the last entrance marked “Athletic Fields/Tennis Courts.” Park near the courts and enter the building in the back directly across from the tennis courts.

From (Amherst, Hadley) the Coolidge Bridge, take a right at the lights just after the bridge onto Damon Road. At the next set of lights, go straight across (King Street) onto Bridge Road and continue straight on Bridge Road (through one set of lights, then later, a blinking light). A couple of blocks past the blinking light on the right is JFK Middle School. Take the last entrance marked “Athletic Fields/Tennis Courts.” Park near the courts and enter the building in the back directly across from the tennis courts.

From Williamsburg/Goshen (Route 9), take Route 9 towards Florence, past the VA Medical Center in Leeds. Take a left onto Bridge Road just before the main entrance to Look Park. JFK Middle School is on Bridge Road and will be on the left about ¼ mile past this turn in a residential area. Take the first entrance marked “Athletic Fields/Tennis Courts.” Park near the courts and enter the building in the back directly across from the tennis courts.

From Route 9 in Northampton or the center of Florence, stay on Route 9 through Florence Center, towards Leeds, Williamsburg, etc. When the main entrance to Look Park is on the left, take the right onto Bridge Road. (If you pass the VA Medical Center, you missed the turn onto Bridge Road). JFK Middle School is on Bridge Road and will be on the left about ¼ mile past this turn in a residential area. Take the first entrance marked “Athletic Fields/Tennis Courts.” Park near the courts and enter the building in the back directly across from the tennis courts.

From Easthampton, take Florence Road until it ends and turn right onto Pine Street (just before the Elks Lodge/Club in Florence). Go up Pine Street and just after the Florence Community Center or at the Florence Congregation Church (they are next to each other), bear left onto Park Street. Turn left onto Route 9 at the stop sign. When the main entrance to Look Park is on the left, take the right onto Bridge Road. (If you pass the VA Medical Center, you missed the turn onto Bridge Road). JFK Middle School is on Bridge Road and will be on the left about ¼ mile past this turn in a residential area. Take the first entrance marked “Athletic Fields/Tennis Courts.” Park near the courts and enter the building in the back directly across from the tennis courts.
