“SWIMPOSIUM 2002”

You are invited to participate in an all day workshop that includes something for everyone in our swimming community. Please mark your calendars for September 21st! Regustrations are due by September 12th.

ATHLETES are invited to attend a “Gold Medal” clinic hosted by National Team athletes and Olympians: Ryan Berube (1996 Olympian), Courtney Shealey (2000 Olympian) and Amanda Atkins (2000 Olympian) for a day filled with motivation and fun! The 12 & younger swimmers will have their clinic in the morning. The 13 & older swimmers will have their clinic in the afternoon. Plan on bringing your suits! Pre-registration is mandatory and preferance will be given to swimmers whose family is also participating in the Swimposium. There is a limit of 100 swimmers per session. If we have more than 100 register before September 12th, N.E. Swimming will use a lottery to select the swimmers.

COACHES will have a clinic presented by USA Swimming staff member and sports scientist Genadijus Sokolovas. Genadijus is the Physiology Director at USA Swimming from 2000 – present. Before his position here in the Unites States, he served on the Coaching Faculty at the Lithuanian Academy of Physical Education. Genadijus was the Dean of Coaching Faculty, Scientific Advisor of Lithuanain Swimming, Modern Pentathlon and Track & Field. If you would like more information regarding Genadijus’s background, contact Amy Parratto at seacoastswimming.com. The topics will be as follows: “Using Heart Rate to Guide Training”; “Long Term Career Training Design”; “Fatigue, Recovery, and Weekly Training Design”. We also plan to have a Safety Training for Swim Coaches Challenge course after the presentations.

OFFICIALS will have the opportunity to interact with and learn from two of USA Swimming’s top officials. Bob and Helen Brown will be our guest officials. Helen has been a National Championship Official since 1985. Bob is also a National Championship Official and Director of Oregon Swimming. He is also the former chair of the Senior Swimming Committee. This is a beneficial presentation for any official at any level. All aspects of officiating will be covered…don’t miss this!

CLUB ADMINISTRATION is a presentation for parents and coaches who run swimming teams. This track of the Swimposium focuses on every aspect of club administration and building stronger, healthier clubs. If you are a board member and you want to help your club remain strong and stable…this talk is for you! Our presenter is USA Swimming’s Sport Development Coordinator for the Eastern Zone – Sue Pitt Anderson. Not only has Sue served as a head coach and CEO of the Scarlet Aquatic Club in New Jersey, she is also an Olympian (1964, 1968)!!!

PARENTS will have a presentation in conjunction with the Gold Medal Clinics. The “Parents Guide” track gives parents of swimmers the opportunity to obtain information about the sport of swimming and how parents can best contribute to the sport. Parents will learn how to be a better “swim parent”! Parents of 12 & younger swimmers will have their track in the morning. Parents’ of 13 & older swimmers will have their track in the afternoon. The presenter for this topic is Jane Grosser. Jane is the Domestic & Age Group Coordinator for USA Swimming. In addition, she is the Camps Committee Chair for USA Swimming from 1994-present.
